Derick Kessel
Rest in peace
8/18/1979 - 1/4/2007

Remember his smile, remember his heart, remember DK for the amazing person he was.
He will live in our hearts forever.

To all of my friends,

I am saddened to have to type this e-mail, however I want to make sure everyone was aware of the situation.  We have lost someone very special in our lives.  Derick Kessel passed away yesterday early in the morning on January 4, 2007.
He has touched each and every one of our hearts throughout the years that we have known him.  We can all sit here right now and think of at least one memory of DK that will make us smile.  There are so many things that I want to say, but I don't know where to start.  I considered Derick a very good friend and I will miss him with all my heart.  He is gone but will never be forgotten.  His personality was what made so many people want to be in his presence.  Even though he is no longer with us, his presence will always be around us.  He was the kind of person where if he entered a room everyone knew his name, and he knew all of ours.
Please take this time to think about all the great times you have had with him, and send a prayer out to his family.

Love,
Kimmy

I've encountered many people in life. Many good, many bad and several in between. I've also meet special people. These people seem to have spirits so genuine, so kind and so real, it's unexplanable. I've lost yet another one of these special people who've touched my life. I'm having a really tough time understanding why it's these specific people who lived life to the fullest, treated so many with respect and who were loved by a myriad of people are the ones to leave us first. Is there a lesson in this? Maybe there is. It's disheartening to know someone, who's impacted so many is gone. Never to be that warm person that usually lite up the room, never to compliment you again, never to love. For those of you who knew Derick, he was kind. He was massive in size and in his heart. He loved everyone and everyone loved him. He spoke only good things and the truth. Can we please learn a lesson from this? The lesson of Derick and of others before him. Live, love and be present. Life is too short to take it for granted.

A LETTER TO DERICK'S FAMILY...

We want to tell you all how much DK meant to his friends. We want to explain how his entrance into a room would create smiles amongst US ALL. How his big warm hug made you MELT in his arms. His generous heart made you proud to know such a man. AND for all he gave as a friend, we want all of you, and DK, to know..... that if we had ONE gift that we could have given YOU, Derick..... it would be the ability to SEE YOURSELF as others see you, Because then only would you know how TRULY special you are!
Our lives are forever changed, Our world will never be the same,
.... But while we are here without you, We want you to know that We will make you proud! We will be strong and we will NEVER forget how BLESSED we were, to have known someone,
